Common Questions
Everything you need to know before renting a bike in Manali.
NH-1 Expeditions offers bike rentals in Manali starting from ₹800/day for an Access 125 scooter, up to ₹2,200/day for the Royal Enfield Himalayan 452. The Scram 411 and Yezdi Adventure are both available at ₹1,800/day. Prices are per day with no kilometre limits. A refundable security deposit is required — ₹2,000–5,000 for local rides and ₹8,000–10,000 for long-distance routes like Manali to Leh or Spiti Valley.
Yes, a valid motorcycle driving licence is mandatory for all rentals. Indian citizens require a standard Indian 2-wheeler licence. International visitors should carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home country licence. NH-1 Expeditions checks all documents at the time of pickup. Minimum rider age is 21 years.
Yes. NH-1 Expeditions welcomes international riders from all countries. You will need your passport, a valid International Driving Permit (IDP), and your home country driving licence. We also assist foreign nationals with permit documentation for restricted areas of Ladakh (Protected Area Permits for Nubra Valley, Pangong, Tso Moriri, and Hanle). Contact us before your trip and we will prepare everything in advance.
You need: (1) A valid motorcycle driving licence — Indian or International Driving Permit for foreign nationals. (2) A government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar card, passport, or voter ID. (3) A refundable security deposit paid by cash or UPI. We also provide the bike's Registration Certificate (RC), insurance documents, and PUC certificate with every rental — keep these on you throughout your ride.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 is our top recommendation for the Manali to Leh highway. Its 452cc engine, long-travel suspension, and high ground clearance are purpose-built for high-altitude mountain roads. It handles everything from smooth tarmac to river crossings without difficulty. For riders who prefer a lighter, more agile option, the Scram 411 is an excellent alternative. Both are available at NH-1 Expeditions in Manali.
The Manali to Leh highway is safe for prepared, experienced riders. The key risks are altitude sickness (acclimatise for 24–48 hours in Manali before ascending), sudden weather changes, and road surfaces that can include gravel and river crossings. We recommend: riding in daylight hours only, never riding alone, carrying a first aid kit, downloading offline maps, and keeping our WhatsApp number (+91 97799 99937) saved for emergency support throughout your ride.
NH-1 Expeditions operates seasonally from June to October, aligned with the opening of the Himalayan high passes. The Manali to Leh highway typically opens in mid-June and closes in early October due to snowfall. We advise contacting us in advance to confirm current road status and bike availability. For September and early October riders, slots are limited — book early.
